Guidelines for Scoring Research Achievements in a Doctoral

Guidelines for Scoring Research Achievements in a Doctoral Dissertation

  1. The "Semiconductor Technology Doctoral Degree Program" (hereinafter referred to as the Program) has established the "Point System for Research Achievements in the Doctoral Dissertation" (hereinafter referred to as the Guidelines) as one of the graduation requirements to evaluate the research achievements of doctoral students in the Program.

  2. The evaluation items for research achievements of doctoral students in the Program include the following:

    1. International invention patents (Europe, America, Japan): 2 points per patent (must be approved).
    2. Domestic invention patents: 1 point per patent (must be approved).
    3. Invention patents in mainland China: 1 point per patent (must be approved).
    4. Technology transfer of research and development achievements: 1 point for every TWD 250,000 of technology transfer funds.
    5. Industry-academia cooperation projects: 1 point for every TWD 500,000 of industry-academia funding, with the doctoral student serving as the main executor.
    6. Technical presentations of research and development achievements: 1 point per technology (organized by the enterprise conducting the "Enterprise Practical Research and Development" course).
    7. Journal papers published in SCIE/SCI or Scopus-indexed journals: 2 points per paper.
    8. Journal papers: 1 point per paper.
    9. Conference papers presented in a foreign language: 0.5 points per paper.
  3. The regulations for invention patents and technology transfer are as follows:

    1. The content of patents and technology transfer should be related to the industry or corporate R&D technology conducted by the doctoral student, and the inventors should include the doctoral student and their advisor.
    2. The ownership of patents should include the university.
    3. The content of patents and technology transfer should be related to the doctoral dissertation, and the application date of the patent and the signing date of the technology transfer should be during the doctoral student's enrollment at the university.
  4. The regulations for industry-academia cooperation projects are as follows:

    1. The industry-academia cooperation project should be undertaken by the advisor in the name of the university and serve as the principal investigator during the doctoral student's enrollment. The project content should be related to the doctoral dissertation.
    2. The signing date and completion date of the industry-academia cooperation project should be during the doctoral student's enrollment.
  5. The regulations for the presentation of research and development achievements are as follows: It should be organized by the enterprise conducting the "Enterprise Practical Research and Development" course, with the Program and the advisor hosting the technical presentation event.

  6. Journal papers or conference papers should indicate the Program or the department affiliated with the College of Semiconductor as the first affiliation of the paper, and the doctoral student should be the first author. If the advisor is the first author, the doctoral student should be listed as the second author. The submission date of journal papers should be during the doctoral student's enrollment at the university. If not formally published, acceptance documents from the publishing entity can be used as evidence for counting the points.

  7. To apply for the calculation of research achievement points for the doctoral dissertation, the cumulative points of each research achievement must reach 5 points or more, and among items 1 to 5 of the second point, at least one item must be included. Item 6 is a mandatory achievement, and among items 7 to 9, at least one item must be included.

  8. If a doctoral student suspends or withdraws from the program due to reasons, the research achievements in the second point can be retained until resuming the program or reacquiring admission qualifications. However, if the advisor is changed, none of the research achievements can be counted.

  9. The calculation of research achievement points by doctoral students requires written consent from the advisor. The advisor, within their scope of responsibility, assesses the accumulated points of the doctoral student to determine if they are complete. The application documents for point calculation are then reviewed by at least three members, including the doctoral student's advisor and relevant experts from within and outside the university, convened by the Program director. A separate form is provided for the calculation of dissertation points.

  10. These guidelines shall be implemented after being approved by the Program meeting, and any amendments shall follow the same process.
